October

Against the vibrant backdrop of autumn in New England come all the seasonal chores that must be finished before the cold months arrive. I’ve spent hours glazing, priming, and painting windows; climbing up and down ladders; clearing gutters; and mowing and raking—and there’s still more to do. All of this is to say that my regular sketching habit has fallen off. It took me two weeks to finish this modest page. In that time, the once-fresh leaves dried and crumpled, the crabapples shriveled on the trees, and scarcely a nut remains; the squirrels have also been busy with their pre-winter work. Still, it’s October. There are glorious days ahead, and I hope to get back on track with my sketching.

Join me today 10/25 for The Empty Nest: Ink and Watercolor Sketch Demo at 2pm Pacific/5pm Eastern. Part of Autumn Art in Action at Winslow Art Center, you can sign up for free to join the session and take advantage of other live demos, interactive work-alongs, and engaging artist talks. Video recordings are available to watch afterward.
