  1. I too was poking around and love your images ! I am in remission with advanced Lyme disease and trying to get back into Life…an avid naturalist ! Your images have inspired me to get outside again and look /observe again , thank you for the best “art therapy” !

    • Hi Amy- I’m so glad you had a dose of art therapy here and are ready to get back out. Lyme disease is so tough– I hope you can find ways to make the most of your forays outside. All the best! –Jean

  2. Love your journals and the way you watercolor. I am a self-taught watercolorist and I’m working in my 11th journal. But my paintings are nothing like this! Beautiful and I love the quotations. I have filled many books of those, also! Wish you had workshops in the deep south!

    • Hi Kathy– What a nice note. I am self-taught watercolorist, too, so keep going! I only offer a few workshops a year because I have a full-time job– workshops need to fit into my vacation time. Alas, there’s never quite enough of that. I hope you keep in touch through the blog, and feel free to ask questions if you have them.

  3. Hi again! Looking at your paintings everyday has taught me
How to layer my washes and my paintings have improved
Greatly. Thank you for putting me on the blog!

    • Kathy– so nice to hear that! I think many people think they need to get all the paint down in the right spot on the first go. Learning to build up layers without losing the transparency is so important. Did you figure out your birds? House finch? Carolina wren?

  4. Hello, Jean!
I’m Lindy and I’d love to get a print of your Phoebe watercolor with lovely script of the name. I discovered on your site after doing a Google search for “Phoebe bird watercolor.” A dear friend now has a new granddaughter named Phoebe and I thought it would make a lovely gift. Can you help me? Thanks!
    Lindy

  5. I have been enjoying your journal for sometime. Delightful. What kind of pencil do you use when you are sketching outside? The drawings are so delicate.

    • Hi Terri- I typically work directly in ink with a black Micron pen, size 02. That size is pretty small, so the lines are light, but visible. Glad you are enjoying seeing my journal pages!

  6. So beautiful and relaxing, oh my! I was looking up how to draw birds, and found your site. Talk about inspiring, thank you!

  7. Jean, I love your work. My good friend Lucy Ross, who happens to be your aunt(!), has lent me her copy of THE NATURE EXPLORER’S SKETCHBOOK. Today I plan to buy a copy for my grandson Cassian, age 10. It will be a Christmas present.

May you and your family have a meaningful Christmas and good health.

    • Hi Judy- So nice of you to reach out and introduce yourself. I hope Cassian enjoys the Nature Explorer’s Sketchbook. Perhaps you can try some of the activities together. Merry Christmas to you! — Jean
