Field Guide to Remotes

Here’s a quick sketch I should have made years ago. No attempt at beauty or precision, just a down-n-dirty guide so that I can finally watch a movie without assistance.

I wanted to do this page quickly and without fuss, so I used a Uniball gel pen instead of my usual Micron 02 pen. The ink isn’t water soluble, but it sure smudged easily.

(My apologies for such a mundane post. I’m working on a large, precise drawing this week and needed to counter the care of that piece with something really fast. I’m still a good number of hours from finishing the former, so my regular journaling is taking a backseat.)

  1. Fun sketch. Amusing. Thanks for the whimsy! Life can use more whimsy!

  2. Oh, how I need to do this too! I don’t watch TV much so I get so confused with all the remotes😳 Good idea:)))

    • Same here. I really never watch TV, which is why I don’t need the advanced course in how to use a remote…just the movie tutorial.

  3. Jean: This is not a mundane sketch as I see it. It reminds me of the time I needed to quickly change the TV channel using my remote that sits on a nearby table along with my wireless phone. I reached for the remote and instead picked up the wireless phone. When the TV channels would not respond to my remote, I checked the remote and discovered the silly reason.

    • Glad you can appreciate it! I suspect this is especially appealing to those who don’t watch much TV– I rarely do, so never remember how it all works.

  4. I have been struggling with the same issue: how to change from TV over to watching a DVD. Wish my remotes matched yours, but I have Sony and other makers on my 3 remotes. Fun to know I am not alone in this craziness of technology. I want to be able to use one remote to do all of this.

    • I think they do make universal remotes– but then I’d have to figure out how to set that up! I’ll stick with my drawing…good luck!
