TAPPING AUDUBON’S PASSION: Sketching Birds in Watercolor
Thursday, September 23, 2-5pm (via Zoom)
Currier Museum of Art, Manchester, NH; REGISTER
Take a closer look at the artistry of John James Audubon’s Birds of America and learn techniques for making your bird sketches and paintings take flight. The Currier Museum’s collection includes 40 original engravings. We’ll examine several engravings of songbirds and the watercolor paintings from which they are derived (from the collection of the New York Historical Society) and try our hand at sketching and painting those same species.

Olana Plein Air Festival, Olana State Historic Site, Hudson, NY; REGISTER HERE
Come to Olana, the extraordinary home and landscape masterpiece of Frederic Church, for its First Annual Plein Air Festival. A variety of workshops are scheduled throughout the day. I will be offering a 2-hour workshop, The Lost Art of Field Sketching, for adults in the morning and a 1.5 hour Nature Explorer’s Hike and Sketch for families in the afternoon. The First Annual Olana Plein Air Festival is a partnership between Drawing America, The Olana Partnership and The Olana State Historic Site.
ARTS AND BIRDING
Registration opens in late October
Hog Island Audubon Camp in Maine
Find creative inspiration on Maine’s stunningly beautiful rocky coast, surrounded by the sights, sounds, and rhythms of life on an island. Arts and Birding brings together people of all artistic levels who share an enthusiasm for birds and nature, and invites you to learn, explore and grow in a fun and supportive environment. We’ll explore the island’s spruce forest, tide pools, and striking vistas, take a boat trip to see puffins, and offer daily skill sessions in sketching/painting. You’ll also have longer blocks of time to explore and sketch on your own using the island and its many resources for inspiration. Join me and fellow instructors Sherrie York, Barry VanDusen, and Sean Murtha for a great week.
Interesting in Hosting a Workshop?
Contact me! The best thing to do is to reach out via e-mail and tell me what you have in mind. Then we can arrange to talk on the phone to discuss details. I like to tailor a workshop to the needs of each group. Fees vary based on travel and workshop length.
